Delighting on Android: A Daily Rhythm With God on Your Phone

Delighting is now on Google Play. How to install it, what it does on your Android phone, and how to use it for a few honest minutes with God each day.

· 6 min read

Most of us reach for our phones dozens of times a day, and very few of those moments leave us nearer to God. That is not a reason to throw the phone away. It is a reason to put something better within reach.

Delighting is now on Google Play for Android, and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (see Delighting on iPhone and iPad and both stores in one place). This guide covers how to install it, what it does on your phone, and a simple way to use it for a few honest minutes with God each day, without letting it become one more thing that pulls at you.

In short

Delighting is a faith-centered AI companion, now available on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. It offers a Daily Word from Scripture each morning, honest conversation that answers from the Bible and shows its sources, and a private, encrypted journal. It uses the same account as delighting.ai and the iPhone and iPad app, so you can start on your phone and pick up on a computer or another device. It is free to begin, and the best way to use it is briefly and on purpose: one passage, one question, one line of prayer.

How to install Delighting on Android

Open Delighting on Google Play, or open the Play Store on your phone and search for Delighting. The app is published by One Frequency, Inc. and has a tan icon with a dark letter D. Tap Install, then open it.

If you are reading this on your phone right now, you can also scroll to the bottom of any page on delighting.ai and tap the Google Play link.

When the app opens you will see the same quiet welcome as the website. If you already have an account, choose Sign in, and your journal, saved verses, and conversations will be waiting. If you are new, choose Begin. A short, optional set of questions helps set the tone, and none of it requires an account.

What Delighting does on your phone

The app is deliberately small. It does three things, and tries to do them well.

A Daily Word each morning

Each day a single passage of Scripture waits for you, with a short reflection. It is meant to be read slowly, in a minute or two, not skimmed. You can bring it into your journal, pray over it, or ask a question about it. You can read today's word any time at the Daily Word.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

— Psalm 119:105 (BSB)

A lamp lights the next step, not the whole road. That is the hope for the Daily Word: enough light for today.

Honest conversation, grounded in Scripture

You can ask the questions you carry, about a verse, a doubt, a hard week, or how to pray. Delighting answers from Scripture and two thousand years of Christian thought, and it shows you where each answer comes from so you can open your Bible and check. Start a conversation when something is on your mind.

It is an AI, and it says so. It can be wrong. It does not hear from God, and it is not a pastor. If a reply seems off, tap Report under it and it is flagged for review. The AI disclosure explains plainly what it can and cannot do.

A private journal

The journal is a place to write what you are learning, what you are praying for, and what you are grieving. Entries are encrypted before they are stored, so the words you write are never kept as plain text on our servers. A prayer log sits alongside it, so you can look back and see how prayers were answered, or how you changed while you waited.

A five-minute rhythm for your phone

A phone makes it easy to do many things badly. The goal here is to do one thing well. Here is a simple shape you can keep on most days.

Morning, two minutes. Before email or news, open the Daily Word. Read the passage twice, slowly. Ask one question of it: what does this show me about God, and what does it ask of me today.

Midday, one minute. When a worry or a question surfaces, bring it to God first in a sentence of prayer. If you want help thinking it through, ask Delighting, and read the passages it points to.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

— Philippians 4:6 (BSB)

Evening, two minutes. Write one or two lines in your journal. Something you noticed, something you are thankful for, someone you are praying for. That is enough.

None of this replaces gathering with your church, reading the Bible itself, or praying without any screen at all. It is a help for the hours in between.

Be still, and know that I am God.

— Psalm 46:10 (BSB)

Keeping your phone from taking over

A companion on your phone can still become a distraction. A few settings help keep it in its place.

Choose your reminder time. In Settings you can pick when your Daily Word reminder arrives. Pick a time when you can actually stop for two minutes.

Set quiet hours. Quiet hours hold back notifications overnight or during work, so Delighting never interrupts when you should be resting or with people.

Leave it when you are done. Delighting has no feed to scroll. When you have read, asked, and written, close it and go and live what you read.

The notifications help page walks through both.

Questions people ask about the Android app

Is it the same as the website

Yes. The Android app opens delighting.ai full screen, with the same account and everything you have saved. Improvements to the website reach the app at the same time, with no update to install.

What does it cost

Delighting is free to install and free to begin. The free tier includes the Daily Word, the journal, and a daily allowance of conversations. Crisis resources are never behind a paywall.

What about iPhone

Delighting is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad too, with the same account. Read Delighting on iPhone and iPad, or see both stores in one place. The app is on the App Store.

What if I am struggling

If you are in a dark place, please do not wait. In the United States you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any hour, and our crisis resources page lists help in other countries. Delighting will also show these resources if a conversation turns that way, but a real person is the best first step.

Where to begin today

  1. Open Google Play on your Android phone, search for Delighting, and install it.
  2. Sign in, or choose Begin and set the time you would like your Daily Word.
  3. Tomorrow morning, before anything else, read the passage twice and write one line about it.
  4. When a question comes up during the day, ask Delighting and read the passages it points you to.
  5. If you want a fuller shape for your mornings, read how to build a daily quiet time.
